For the second Tuesday in a row, on 1 April 2025, TUdi’s partner New Bulgarian University (NBU) hosted a working group at the Institute of Soil Science, Agrotechnologies and Plant Protection “Nikola Pushkarov" in Sofia, Bulgaria. This week’s topic was ‘Opportunities for assessing the economic impact of soil restoration strategies using SEST.
The aim of the event was to present the Socio-Economic Toolkit to Support Soil Restoration (SEST). SEST is a tool designed to support farmers through detailed economic analysis, aiding in strategic decision-making by assessing the financial impact of soil restoration strategies and advanced fertilisation practices. It included three modules:
Management Operational Tool (MOT): Allows the calculation of gross margin and critical point method.
Cost-Benefit Analysis Tool (CBAT): Allows the calculation of a partial budget and a dynamic cost-benefit analysis.
Simulation Environmental Tool (SET): Optimizes profit, break-even point, and profitability to improve medium- and long-term results based on changes in average yields and crop prices.
The meeting included a demonstration of the tool in front of 14 stakeholders, followed by a survey gathering their feedback.
