TUdi participated in the Soil Week scientific conference, organised by the Horizon Europe project Soils for Europe in Sofia, Bulgaria on 30 January 2024. The event took place in the Bulgarian Academy of Sciences (BAS) and was attended by 30 stakeholders from various fields, such as science, business, farming and the media.
TUdi was represented by Dr Ekatherina Tzvetanova-Georgieva (New Bulgarian University) who presented the main goals of the project as well as the objectives of the work packages. Furthermore, she presented the achievements of the project so far, including the developments of the Decision Support Tools (DSTs) which can help farmers and policymakers make more informed decisions regarding soil health.
The event also included multiple lectures, presented by national soil experts who presented topics such as:
• "Soil biodiversity in Bulgaria"
• "Conservation aspects of soil fauna"
• "Biomonitoring of ecosystems from the polar region of Livingston Island (Antarctica) under global changes"
• "Soil, water and climate for sustainable agriculture"
• "Soil invasive species in Bulgaria"
• "Using AI to advance regenerative agriculture"
• "Publication, dissemination and communication of scientific data on soil biodiversity"
The conference provided an opportunity for local stakeholders to get introduced to both SOLO and TUdi and work towards establishing a regional network in Bulgaria. A media article in Bulgarian can be found here.
