Organised by a committee from Aarhus University, and hosted there, the international N Workshop spanned over 5 days (17-21 June 2024) and served as an opportunity to bring together contributions from researchers around the world. This year’s edition centred around resolving the global nitrogen dilemma: how to balance the need to increase nitrogen inputs for crop productivity and human nutrition while reducing nitrogen losses that contribute to environmental pollution and pose threats to food security and ecosystem health.
The program of the event was divided into six regular and four special sessions, together with seven interesting keynotes and two roundtables.
The regular sessions were on the following topics:
How to increase nitrogen use efficiency
Reducing nitrogen losses
Nitrogen recycling
Incentives for good nitrogen management
Food systems
Livestock in agricultural systems from a nitrogen perspective
Whilst the special sessions were in addition to oral communications and poster presentations, they covered the topics of:
Nitrogen communications
Nitrogen in organic farming
19th TFRN meeting
Future Design Seminar
TUdi partners Octavian Chiriac and Andrea Alpigiano, from the Department of Agriculture, Forest and Food Sciences (DISAFA) of the Univerisity of Turin presented posters on the topics of “Factors influencing nitrogen derived from soil organic matter mineralisation: results from a long-term experiment” and “Nitrogen fertiliser input reduction threats soil fertility in a medium-term experiment in NW Italy”.
