The Institute for Soil Sciences, a part of the HUN-REN Centre for Agricultural Research, held an International conference and workshop on “Alternatives to Reduce Soil Degradation” (ARSD2024) on 7 May 2024, in Budapest, Hungary.
The conference served as a space for scientists from different countries and fields of soil sciences to meet and exchange knowledge, present their research results, and share achievements and ideas. It also offered a chance for discussions on current challenges related to soil health and conservation and networking opportunities.
Key topics of the conference included:
Implementing effective measures to reduce the negative impacts of soil degradation processes.
The use of soil amendments and conditioners (including fertilisation and inhibitor treatments) to enhance yields while safeguarding the environment.
Monitoring soil and plant health to promote more sustainable agricultural practices.
Utilising proximal and remote sensing as complementary tools for studying changes in soil processes.
TUdi played a key role in the conference by leading a joint project workshop on the theme of transforming unsustainable farming practices, emphasising the fight against soil degradation. TUdi partner Ignacio Domenech presented “A field guide for evaluation of erosion risk in olive orchards under contrasting environmental and management conditions.”
