On 6 November 2023, TUdi’s Austrian stakeholder - the Boden.Leben association - held a field day in Sigmundsherberg, Austria, which covered the topics of intercropping, biodiversity and nutrient management.
The event was attended by around 80 farmers, who participated in discussions and demonstrations on nutrient management, planning of liming, adapted cover cropping and the connection between root formation and water balance in the soil. The participants were also able to directly see the effects of different sowing methods (direct sowing, sowing with drones) and intercropping mixtures.
In particular, the subsequent discussion between farmers and lecturers, scientists, seed company representatives and farmers provided answers to many open questions regarding difficulties in cover cropping and new insights into the use of cover crops in practice.
